Video: How I Overcame Information Overload Stress

Last week, I spoke at the Media Evolution conference in Malmö Sweden.  It’s basically the South by Southwest (SXSW) of Scandinavia.  Speakers fly in from all over the world to talk about media, technology, and design in front of an audience of 700 people.

Megan Miller, Director of  R&D for mega-media company Bonnier, invited me to be one of two speakers on her conference track, titled “How to live a hyperconnected life (or do the exact opposite).”  The other speaker was Susan Maushart, best-selling author and expert on disconnecting from your iphone, crackberry, email, or whatever else you spend too much time on. (video)  I talked about how things change when you put your information online, the implications for doing so, and what you can do about it (Hint: it has something to do with hacking stress).  This was also the first time I’ve ever hacked my brain while presenting; I gave the entire talk while running a 50hz microcurrent across my prefrontal cortex by using a cerebral electric stimulation (CES) machine.

The conference was packed with really cool speakers, including Naveen Selvadurai, (video) founder of FourSquare, who I got to know when we had dinner at the Quantified Self conference. Another awesome presentations came from Cyborg Anthropologist Amber Case (video), and there was an amazing final presentation by Al Jazeera’s head of social media, Riyaad Minty. (video)
